About Me

I am a currently completing my year-long internship in a Geometry classroom at Kenwood Academy and taking graduate level courses concurrently with Michigan State University.  I  recently graduated in May of 2009 with a major in mathematics and minor in physics through the secondary education program.  I will be certified to teach both subjects in May 2010 and am interested in a career in an urban district.   At MSU I was a member of the Honors College and Kappa Delta Pi, an education fraternity.  I am currently a member of the National Council of Teacher of Mathematics.

Throughout my undergraduate and graduate student teaching experiences I focused on the following areas:

  • I facilitated  meaningful mathematical learning through discovery and critical thinking
  • I worked to improve reading scores by developing problems that require students to interpret and analyze mathematics from various articles
  •  I incorporated technology into the classroom through class websites, SMART Boards, web explorations, discovery applets, etc.
  • I utilized data from standardized tests and summative assessments to drive instruction
  • I attended a variety professional development sessions to further my instructional practice

I assist with the Kenwood Academy Men's Swim Team and also help with the after-school tutoring program.  I was a swimmer in high school, so this has enabled me to share my passion with others and has given me an opportunity to get back in the pool.  I really enjoy getting to know the boys beyond the classroom walls and I believe this has provided me with a better understanding of who they are as a student as well.

Besides my education, my family is another very important thing to me.  We really enjoy going up north and spending time on Lake Huron where we boat, water ski, and play beach volleyball.  I also practice yoga and love to travel and read.
