Technology Integration Project

Goal

Students will explore polygons and their symmetry and will be using technology to present their findings and summarize the properties of various polygons.

Introduction

Grade Level: 9-10th Grade

Course: Geometry

Duration: 3 week unit

Technology Used and Benefits

Wiki

- Viewed and modified by anyone in the class
- Permits group collaboration across the internet
- Easy to use and edit
- Free

Del.icio.us

- Access bookmarks from any computer
- Ability to tag and organize websites
- Collect class web resources
- Free

Photo Story

- Visual and auditory
- Allows for creativity
- Good way to present for students and teachers
- Free

Major Steps of the Plan

Step 1:  Students will visit the class Wiki to check the main points that will be covered each day.  This will also be the place where they find information about their projects, as well as share their ideas, questions, etc.

Step 2:  Students will look at the class Del.icio.us to look at different web resources that will supplement the material covered in class.  These websites will also help them as they complete their projects.

Step 3:  Students will individually create a photo story on symmetrical objects.  They will complete this project by following these steps:

     1.  Take 10-15 photos of symmetrical (reflection or rotation) objects
     2.  Collect these photos into a photo story.
     3.  Add audio that explains the symmetry of each object.
     4.  Put the project onto the class Wiki.

Step 4:  Students will create a photo story in a group on a specific quadrilateral.  Each group will have a different quadrilateral and will become an "expert" on this polygon.  They will create a photo story that they will present to the class.  They will complete this project by following these steps:

     1.  Take 6-8 photos of their assigned quadrilateral
     2.  Collect these photos into a photo story.
     3.  Add audio that explains the properties of this quadrilateral.
     4.  Put the project onto the class Wiki.
